Tom Hall
Tom Hall captures the sublime beauty of the Maine landscape. Whether pristine or impacted by human hands, Hall emotionally conveys the true spirit of the place depicted.
American painter William Thon (NYC, b. 1906) said in 1992, “I feel that I'm a kind of a messenger that tries to say, hey, come, look how beautiful everything is.”
That’s what these … paintings are all about... Beauty....pure and simple...no hocus-pocus. Beauty with a capital B. And arguably it’s much needed in these difficult times...for the viewer and, selfishly maybe, for the maker. In the beauty is a salve, a balm against the injury of circumstance. Not a pomade of indolence but one of inspiration and knowing. And thus of action.
Many decry Beauty as an opiate, a badge of luxury, a mere distraction in a time of need. Others insist Beauty is the raison d'être of Art. Define it as you will, but Beauty by its very nature implies integration, resolution of conflict, empathy, and love. That said, we should double down on Beauty... let’s all be messengers , as William Thon might define...about the earth, about sharing...about passing on the Beauty.
