Sarah Knock

Sarah Knock

Best known for her unique interpretations of the Maine Coast and its reflections, Sarah frequently travels and draws her inspiration from many areas around the world. Her oil paintings are interpretations based on a strong sense of composition, color relationships, and patterns.  She is most interested in the process of drawing and redrawing on the canvas.  A current focus is painting both the reflections on the surface and what is underwater, such as rocks, ledges, seaweed, fish etc., mostly seen from excursions in her kayak.

Knock has had numerous solo exhibitions at Greenhut Galleries.  Her work has also been exhibited at the Colby College Museum of Art, the Portland Museum of Art, the Farnsworth Museum, the Penobscot Marine Museum, and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art. She is the recipient of an individual fellowship from the Maine Arts Commission and Carina House Residency on Monhegan Island and her work is part of the collections of MBNA, L.L. Bean, TD Banknorth and others.  Her paintings have been represented in Paintings of MaineThe Art of Monhegan Island, and The Art of Maine in Winter.
